February’s Wild & Wingless midget month
of action seemed to kick off slightly
earlier than the scheduled 9th of
February when the boys hit the clay for
practice last night.
The Perth Motorplex dished up one of the
fastest tracks so far this season and
the Speedcars lapped it up. Thanks to a
significant amount of wheel packing by
the Sprintcars the track came up a treat
by midway through the practice session.
What I would normally see as a
conservative practice session turned out
to be a full on flat out affair with the
crowd enjoying the spectacle. With nine
cars on the tracks it seemed anyone was
fair game and it looked like something
from a Saturday night A main event.
The highlight of the session was
undoubtedly seeing Michael Figliomeni’s
first and last cars out there. Ian Watts
has done a fantastic job in restoring
the Squiggle car (Michael’s first car)
to its former glory while Michael’s
brother Andrew was turning the laps in
the last car.
It wasn’t long until both drivers
started sinking the boot in slightly
with Wattsy starting to push the car
along quite nicely. “Yeh the car goes
well I was just having a play out there
tonight it was a bit of fun” said Watts.
Whilst Andrew (Figliomeni) had the
emotions also running high it seemed
hard to wipe the smile from his face
after his first run. “Part of me just
wanted to give it a good run but the
other part of me was saying just take it
easy you don’t want to do anything
stupid” said Figliomeni.
By the end of both cars second runs both
had picked up the pace before putting
them away in readiness for the weekends
Magic Man 34. Both cars will be on
display in the Speedcar pit area for the
event with Michaels black car piloted by
Andrew leading the field prior to the A
main.
So if last night was a taste of what to
expect Saturday night at the Magic Man
34 then we’re all in for a huge night
