To
my cousin Michael, you were my child
hood hero! I looked up to you In so many
ways from when mum was taking me to
Claremont speedway from the age of 2
weeks old and up until I saw you for the
last time.
I would love watching you race, you were
smooth cool and calm behind the wheel of
what ever you drove.
I always wanted to be just like you, I
wanted to race and I wanted to win. I
even used to sit in your Speedcar not
even being able to see over the dash and
pretend I was out there driving until
another kid wanted to sit in there.
Everyone would say one day matt you will
be big enough to drive one. To have a
drive in a Sprintcar or Speedcar was my
only dream in the whole world not even
winning lotto. One day Mum and myself
were with the family at a private track
when Michael looked at me and said are
you gonna put a race suit on matt or
what, I think I stood there for for a
few seconds then I said shit yeah and
before I knew it I was sitting in
Michaels AUS # 1 Fighter Speedcar ready
to go out as Michael was giving me some
tips after maybe 30 odd laps they were
waving me in, It was the best thing in
the whole world that could happen.
Michael made my dream come true, then
Michael let me behind the wheel of his
Sprintcar at the Perth Motorplex mum and
aunty bub had there stop watches out
timing me I think they were mid 16's for
the first time in one you couldn't wipe
that smile off my face for some time so
for Michael to let me live my only dream
plays a very special place in my heart!
So in memory I had Michael Figliomeni
"The Magic Man 34" tattooed on my chest
so he will be even closer to my heart
everyday...
We miss you very much Michael and will
always love you mate thanks for
being an awesome cousin.
